Job Overview

We are seeking a certified Sterile Processing Technician to join a healthcare team on a 13-week contract assignment. This role is responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and clinical equipment. The technician must adhere to established protocols and regulatory standards while supporting operating rooms and clinical areas with sterile supplies.

Requirements

  • CRCST certification (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) – Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)Required

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English

  • Basic computer literacy and interpersonal communication skills

  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course or passing a challenge exam

Responsibilities

  • Sort, disassemble, rinse, and disinfect surgical instruments and equipment following proper procedures and using appropriate PPE

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized decontamination area

  • Assemble instrument sets using count sheets to ensure accuracy

  • Inspect tools for cleanliness and functionality

  • Wrap, package, label, and prepare instruments for sterilization

  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris I)

  • Document and verify sterilization results and indicators

  • Perform basic equipment testing and troubleshooting

  • Assist with ordering, stocking, and tracking surgical supplies

  • Communicate inventory issues to supervisors or supply chain staff

  • Act as a resource for sterile processing procedures across departments

  • Attend mandatory training, meetings, and in-services

  • Work independently and be available for scheduled on-call shifts

  • Maintain a high standard of service for staff, patients, and visitors

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
