Job Title: DB2 z/OS Support Specialist
Location: Albany, NY
Duration: 6 Months

Job Description: A state-level IT initiative is seeking an experienced DB2 z/OS Support Specialist to provide advanced support for DB2 systems across multiple agencies. The ideal candidate will have expert-level skills in DB2 version upgrades, performance tuning, and systems-level troubleshooting in z/OS environments. This role is highly technical and requires close collaboration with both internal teams and external vendors to ensure database reliability, efficiency, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement DB2 version upgrades for current and future releases across multiple agencies.

  • Perform performance tuning, including buffer pools, storage optimization, and I/O monitoring.

  • Manage software maintenance and upgrades, including third-party tools (e.g., CA tools).

  • Handle contingency planning, backup, and system-level recovery processes.

  • Monitor and resolve DB2 system-level performance issues in a timely manner.

  • Provide expert-level DB2 and z/OS systems troubleshooting and support.

  • Collaborate with various agency teams to assist in resolving DB2-related challenges.

  • Rapidly respond to and resolve unplanned outages and incidents.

  • Liaise with IBM to open and manage support cases, and follow through on product issue resolutions.

Required Skills and Tools Proficiency:

  • Expertise with DB2 administration and z/OS systems.

  • Experience with version control and upgrade paths from QMF v7 through v13.

  • Familiarity with IBM DB2 Tools up to V13.10.

  • Proficient in IBM Data Studio.

  • Experience using Platinum Tools / Omegamon for DB2.

  • Skilled in CA Insight, CA Detector, and other CA DB2 Tools.

  • Working knowledge of COBOL for legacy system integration and support.
