Travel Respiratory Therapist - ECMO Specialist

Assignment Length: 13 weeks

Shift Options:

  • Day Shift: 3x12s or 4x12s (06:30 AM – 07:00 PM)

  • Night Shift: 3x12s or 4x12s (06:30 PM – 07:00 AM)
    Block Scheduling: Not available
    Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

Position Requirements:

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years as an RRT

    • Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience as an ECMO Specialist (experience working with ECMO patients alone is not sufficient)

  • Certifications (Required):

    • ACLS, BLS, PALS

    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

    • Valid State License (pending accepted but must be active by start date)

  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted with required ECMO experience

  • RTO: Ideally no more than 5 days

  • Locals: Accepted

Clinical Skills Required:

  • Work Setting: Adult Critical Care

  • Airway Management:

    • Endotracheal tube/suctioning

    • Extubation, Intubation assist

    • Nasal & oral airway placement/suctioning

    • Tracheostomy care/suctioning

    • Pulmonary hygiene, sputum collection

  • Clinical Conditions Experience:

    • ARDS, Aspiration, Bronchoscopy, COVID

    • ECMO, Fresh tracheostomy, Pneumonia

  • Medications Administered:

    • Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent

    • Inhaled Flolan, Mucomyst, Nitric Oxide, Pulmicort

    • Racemic Epinephrine, Spiriva, Tobramycin, Xopenex

  • Delivery Systems:

    • Aerosol (mask/trach), Nebulizers (heated, handheld, ultrasonic, cold, T-piece, trach collar)

    • Oxygen therapy (HFNC, bag & mask, ET tube, trach collar, T-piece, portable O₂)

  • Ventilator Management:

    • BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV

    • Transport (inter-departmental and ambulance)

    • Weaning protocols, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms

  • Other Required Skills:

    • Arterial punctures and ABG interpretation

    • Chest physiotherapy (manual and vest)

    • Drawing arterial blood gases
