Hours: 40 hours per week
Shift: Rotating Days | Rotating Start Times (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
Schedule: Includes Rotating Weekends & Holidays


Position Overview:

We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support the central sterile department at a leading healthcare facility in Hyannis, MA. This vital role ensures the safe, effective, and timely preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence, technical precision, and a strong commitment to patient safety and quality care.


Key Responsibilities:

Decontamination & Cleaning

  • Sort, disassemble, and decontaminate surgical instruments per protocol

  • Use proper PPE and infection control measures

  • Operate washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and cart washers

Instrument Assembly & Sterilization

  • Assemble instrument trays following count sheets and quality standards

  • Inspect, wrap, and label instruments accurately

  • Operate and monitor various sterilization methods (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris I)

  • Conduct and document biological and chemical indicator tests

Storage & Distribution

  • Store sterile items appropriately and maintain sterility

  • Respond to supply and instrumentation requests across departments

  • Follow physician preference cards for surgical setups

Inventory & Equipment Management

  • Manage inventory levels; order and restock supplies as needed

  • Maintain sterilization equipment and report malfunctions promptly

General Duties

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area

  • Assist with onboarding and mentoring of new staff

  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed

  • Uphold best practices in line with AAMI, AORN, OSHA, and CDC guidelines


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

  • Certification (CRCST or CBSPD) preferred

  • SPD certification strongly encouraged

  • 1–2 years of experience in hospital sterile processing or surgical services (Preferred)

  • Proficiency with sterilization and decontamination equipment

  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
