Under the supervision of a licensed physician specializing in anatomic pathology, the Pathology Assistant is responsible for processing, documenting, and preparing specimens for pathology analysis. This role supports both surgical pathology and autopsy services and ensures compliance with healthcare regulatory standards while maintaining laboratory efficiency and safety.
Prepare gross tissue sections for pathology analysis, including dissection, description, and staining as required.
Perform autopsies, including external examination, dissection, and selection of tissue/fluid samples.
Maintain lab inventory, clean/disinfect equipment, and ensure readiness for operations.
Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot medical/laboratory equipment.
Complete necessary documentation and data entry in compliance with protocols.
Adhere strictly to laboratory procedures, infection prevention, and safety standards.
Photograph surgical specimens as assigned and maintain image quality standards.
Participate in specimen accessioning, labeling, storage, and disposal.
Analyze data and generate reports on findings when applicable.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Licensure:
Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Pathologists’ Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED)
Experience:
Prior experience with grossing specimens and performing autopsies
