Job Title: Histology Technician
Location: New York, NY
Assignment Duration: 30 Weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM (includes 30-minute break)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician for a 30-week assignment to provide coverage for an FTE Leave of Absence. The role involves working overnight shifts in a fast-paced Surgical Pathology department. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in handling biopsy and dermatology specimens, with a commitment to precision and patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and process biopsy and dermatology tissue specimens for microscopic examination.

  • Perform embedding, microtomy, staining (routine and special), and cover-slipping techniques.

  • Ensure accurate labeling and documentation of specimens.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with established protocols.

  • Collaborate with pathologists and lab staff to ensure timely and accurate results.

  • Adhere to quality control and safety standards within the laboratory.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Science and completion of an accredited Histology program OR Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience (required).

  • Active NYS license as one of the following (required):

    • Clinical Laboratory Technologist

    • Certified Histology Technician

    • Clinical Laboratory Technician (issued by NYS Education Department)

  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience in histology with a focus on biopsy and dermatology specimens (required).

  • Excellent technical skills and attention to detail (required).

  • Proficient with laboratory information systems and computer usage (preferred).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Work Environment:

  • Clinical lab setting

  • Night shift schedule requiring independent work and time management.
