Job Title: Desktop Support Technician

Duration: 12 Months (with possible extension)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid - Onsite support required at various city locations as part of relocation efforts)

Hourly Rate: $37 - $40/hr

Job Description: A leading government agency seeks a qualified Desktop Support Technician to assist with a multi-phase relocation project involving approximately 1,000 staff across various locations. The technician will play a key role in the setup, reimaging, relocation, and support of end-user equipment, network configurations, and IT systems during a major operational transition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Secure Printing Configuration: Configure secure print features for all printers and copiers, conduct staff training, and create manuals. Provide ongoing support for print security.

  • Wireless Access Design and Testing: Assist the network team with wireless design and placement of Wireless Access Points (WAPs). Conduct testing to ensure optimal performance and coverage.

  • Monitor and Docking Station Management: Relocate and install 2,000 monitors and 1,000 docking stations. Implement cable management at workstations.

  • Endpoint Management Systems: Update Active Directory, SCCM, and VLAN configurations. Maintain and verify updated system documentation.

  • Conference Room Equipment Installation: Install AV, telephony, and conferencing hardware/software. Provide training and documentation for IT staff and users.

  • Program-Specific Hardware Setup: Install and test lobby kiosks, EBT printers, and sound systems. Document setup and train relevant personnel.

  • Decommissioning and Inventory Management: Manage inventory, decommissioning, and coordinate hardware relocation.

  • Laptop Reimaging and User Assistance: Reimage 500+ laptops with updated software/security. Provide user support during equipment refresh.

  • Project Management & Communication: Support project planning and timeline execution. Communicate regularly with stakeholders and assist in identifying risks and mitigation strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in Windows PC imaging.

  • Strong technical skills in hardware, software, and networking.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to various city locations as needed for the relocation efforts.

  • Experience with endpoint management, system documentation, and project support is preferred.
