Job Title: Patient Care Associate – Labor & Delivery
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Assignment Type: 13-Week Contract
Shift: 3:30 PM – 12:00 AM (Rotating)
Schedule: Rotating weekends and holidays required

Job Summary:

A healthcare facility in Brooklyn is seeking an experienced Patient Care Associate (PCA) to support the Labor & Delivery Unit. The ideal candidate will bring at least 2 years of relevant experience and will be well-versed in both clinical and clerical functions. This role plays a key part in supporting nursing and medical staff in providing exceptional care to patients during one of the most critical stages of healthcare—childbirth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record vital signs, weight, and patient measurements

  • Collect and prepare lab specimens; perform basic screenings (e.g., dipstick, hemoccult)

  • Provide instructions and proper documentation for specimen collection

  • Assist with hearing, vision tests, and urinalysis procedures

  • Administer first aid and basic life support when necessary

  • Perform wound care, dressing changes, ear irrigation, and cleansing

  • Prepare patients for exams; assist clinicians during procedures

  • Keep exam rooms and medical equipment clean and organized

  • Educate patients on pre-test instructions and procedures

  • Gather and document patient histories and medical information

  • Maintain accurate records and complete clerical documentation

  • Monitor patient conditions and report to the care team

  • Respond to patient inquiries and assist with referral coordination

  • Support patient and family education on hospital services and safety practices

  • Manage and restock unit supplies and equipment inventory

  • Schedule or reschedule patient appointments manually or electronically

  • Perform venipuncture and fingerstick blood draws

  • Operate EKG machines to record cardiac waveforms

  • Collaborate with staff and help orient new team members

  • Escort and transport patients to other departments as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in a Labor & Delivery unit

  • Certifications:

    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)

    • PCT Certification (via NHA or equivalent)
