Location: New York, NY 10019
Shift: Night Shift (11 PM - 7 AM, 5 Days a Week) Every Other Weekend Required

Pay Rate: $20 - $21 per hour (W2)

Floating: Required to float to all Med-Surg Units

Job Summary:

As an integral part of the clinical care team, the Patient Care Associate is responsible for patient care and support activities, promoting patient-focused care within the specialty service. This role assists registered nurses (RNs) in direct patient care, including activities of daily living, specimen collection, vital sign monitoring, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Vital Signs & Monitoring: Record blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respirations; document intake and output as assigned.

  • Patient Assistance: Support patients with bathing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and positioning.

  • Clinical Procedures: Perform EKGs, venipuncture, specimen collection, post-mortem care, and application of compression devices.

  • Dietary Support: Assist with delivering meals, dietary orders, and monitoring nutritional intake.

  • Environmental Maintenance: Ensure a safe, clean, and functional patient environment, including bed maintenance and trash removal.

  • Patient Safety & Observation: Provide one-on-one observation for patients at risk (e.g., suicide prevention, elopement risk).

  • Communication & Documentation: Utilize rounding logs, call systems, and communication boards to update patient care status.

  • Transport & Logistics: Assist in transporting patients, delivering trays, specimens, and medical records as needed.

  • Emergency Support: Provide assistance in emergency clean-up, transport, and discharge bedmaking in ICU and specialty units.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate with healthcare teams.

  • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and adapt to changing situations.

  • Knowledge of patient care protocols, safety procedures, and medical terminology.

  • Basic computer skills for documentation and system updates.

  • Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform various tasks.

Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).

  • AHA HeartSaver or BLS Certification (Required).

  • Completion of Patient Care Associate Orientation Program.

  • 3-9 months of healthcare experience preferred.
