Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - Perioperative Services

Location: Summit, NJ

Schedule:

  • 4 days a week, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • On-call requirement: 12 days per month, including a full weekend

Job Duties:

1. Assessment Skills

  • Demonstrates competency in assessing patients across all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric.
  • Performs systematic, comprehensive, and accurate assessments to support patient care.

2. Clinical Skills

  • Provides direct patient care in accordance with the team-based care model.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in emergency procedures and equipment usage.

3. Documentation

  • Ensures complete and accurate documentation following established guidelines.
  • Assumes responsibility for documenting nursing processes and patient progress, including education.

4. Professionalism

  • Adheres to policies and procedures while identifying opportunities for clinical and professional growth.
  • Maintains a professional approach in all interactions.

5. Patient Satisfaction

  • Responds to patients, families, and colleagues with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Promotes a patient-centered care environment and ensures confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.

6. Safety

  • Complies with National Patient Safety Goals, including the use of two patient identifiers.
  • Utilizes safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics.

7. Unit-Specific Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of conditions, procedures, and equipment related to surgical patients.
  • Individualizes patient care based on procedure type and anesthesia considerations.

8. Responsibility & Accountability

  • Prioritizes patient care based on individual needs and changes in condition.
  • Acts as a key member of the perioperative team, ensuring effective patient management.

9. Patient Education & Chart Completion

  • Assesses patient understanding of surgical procedures and instructions.
  • Conducts preoperative and postoperative education.

10. Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely completion of pre-admission testing.
  • Reviews testing orders for accuracy and completeness based on the proposed surgery, patient age, and health status.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a critical care setting.
  • Licensure: Active RN license.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS (Required).
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred).

Physical Requirements:

  • As defined by Occupational Safety and Health standards.
