Job Summary:

The Postpartum Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care for mothers and newborns in the postnatal period. The RN ensures the physical and emotional well-being of new mothers, supports breastfeeding, monitors newborn health, and educates families on postpartum and infant care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive postpartum care to mothers, monitoring vital signs and recovery progress.
  • Assess and monitor newborns, ensuring normal transition to extrauterine life.
  • Assist with breastfeeding and provide lactation support.
  • Educate parents on newborn care, postpartum self-care, and recognizing potential complications.
  • Administer prescribed medications and pain management treatments.
  • Recognize and respond to maternal complications, such as hemorrhage, infections, or postpartum depression.
  • Conduct newborn screenings, vaccinations, and health assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in a Postpartum, Mother Baby, or Labor & Delivery unit in an acute care hospital.
  • Strong knowledge of postpartum recovery, maternal health, and newborn care.

Education & Licensure:

  • Required Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN).
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – AHA
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – AHA
  • New Jersey State Professional Registered Nurse license or multi-state compact license

Work Schedule:

  • Hours: 36 hours per week (3 x 12-hour shifts)
  • Duration: 13 Weeks
  • Shift Availability: Day
  • Requirements: Every other weekend, holiday shifts required, no on-call
