Job Title: Adabas Linux Database Administrator (DBA)
Duration: 6 Months (Tentative)
Location: Quincy, MA (Hybrid)

Position Overview:

The role involves supporting the modernization and migration of legacy eligibility and enrollment systems to a cloud-based infrastructure as part of a major healthcare initiative. This will include rehosting legacy mainframe applications to AWS Cloud, specifically focusing on the Natural/Adabas MA21 system. The DBA will play a key role in maintaining the stability of Adabas/Natural applications in a cloud environment, collaborating with development teams, and managing performance, security, and maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain Adabas/Natural applications in a cloud-based, Linux server environment.
  • Support Linux operating systems (RedHat, SuSe, CentOS), including commands and utilities.
  • Design and implement Adabas databases to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
  • Resolve database-related issues and provide timely support for applications.
  • Use Adabas Manager and other tools to monitor database performance and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Develop and implement backup and recovery procedures using Adabas Backup and Recovery Tools.
  • Administer the Natural development environment.
  • Perform database startups, shutdowns, and backups; use Adabas File Reorders.
  • Utilize Software AG utilities (ADAREP, ADASAV, ADAORD, etc.) for database maintenance and reporting.
  • Implement and configure Software AG products, including Adabas, EntireX, and others on Linux.
  • Use Linux shell scripting to automate tasks and manage system processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure the project meets deadlines and requirements.
  • Provide clear documentation, project plans, and status reports.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in business modeling, process modeling, and data modeling.
  • Knowledge of computer systems analysis, design, technical terminology, and standards.
  • Familiarity with system management tools (console and web-based).
  • Experience working with state health exchanges (e.g., MA HIX) is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Visio).
  • Familiarity with Jira Software and SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of IT experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Adabas Database Administrator.
  • Prior experience in government or healthcare projects is preferred.
