Job Title: Medical Assistant - Contract
Location: New York, NY 10017
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture, EKGs, and assist with walking, transferring, and dressing patients.
  • Collect and process specimens, conduct point-of-care testing, and prepare patients for exams.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and take vital signs.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families and answer calls to provide relevant information.
  • Manage patient medical records, including sending and receiving reports and notes (lab/x-ray, hospital, referrals).
  • Complete necessary forms and requisitions and manage charts, ensuring proper filing.
  • Use electronic medical record (EMR) systems for order entry, prescription refill requests, and chart updates.
  • Inventory and reorder medical supplies as needed.
  • Ensure exam rooms and instruments are prepared and sterilized in accordance with infection control policies.
  • Maintain records for medication refrigeration, sterilization, and point-of-care testing.
  • Check expiration dates on medications and supplies, disposing of expired items per policy.
  • Follow personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols for protection against infection and hazardous substances.
  • Assist with appointment scheduling, registration, and insurance verification.
  • Schedule surgeries/procedures and coordinate with the Surgical Coordinator.
  • May perform pre-certification for procedures and update patient demographic information.

Skills

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (basic level).
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette, adaptability to a changing environment, and knowledge of EMR or billing systems preferred.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.

Certification:

  • Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school.
  • BCLS certification (Required) issued by the AHA.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
