Job Title: Medical Assistant - Contract

Location: Greenlawn, NY 11740

Hours Per Week: 40 hours
Hours Per Day: 8 hours
Days Per Week: 5 days

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant will fulfill both clinical and clerical responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare environment, assisting physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure patient care is delivered efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care:

    • Perform venipuncture, EKGs, and assist with patient flow.
    • Accompany patients to exam rooms, assist with transfers, and prepare for examinations.
    • Take vital signs, collect specimens, and perform point-of-care testing.
    • Assist physicians with procedures and communicate instructions to patients and families.
  2. Clerical Duties:

    • Send and receive medical records, manage lab reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
    • Use the EMR system for entering orders or prescription refill requests.
    • Manage and maintain patient charts, both electronically and manually.
  3. Other Responsibilities:

    • Set up exam rooms and instruments using proper sterilization techniques.
    • Inventory and restock medical supplies.
    • Ensure proper logging of refrigeration, testing, and crash cart maintenance.
    • Comply with infection control standards and dispose of expired medications and supplies.
    • Assist in maintaining and filing medical charts.
    • Schedule surgeries, verify times with patients, and prepare necessary paperwork.
    • Perform appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-certifications.
    • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
    • Maintain patient demographic and insurance information.

Skills:

  • Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Effective communication skills, especially with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPAA guidelines, and electronic medical records (preferred but not required).
  • Adaptability to a dynamic, changing environment.

Education: High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.

Licensing & Certification:

  • Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school required.
  • BCLS certification required (issued by AHA).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.

Language: Proficiency in English (speak, read, write).
