Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team on a contract basis. This position involves a combination of patient care responsibilities and administrative duties, providing comprehensive support in a clinical environment. The Medical Assistant will assist with various procedures, maintain patient records, and ensure the smooth flow of daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide patient care, including venipuncture, EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, and assisting patients with walking, transferring, and dressing.
  2. Assist physicians with procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls providing pertinent information.
  3. Perform clerical duties such as managing patient medical records, processing lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms.
  4. Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review.
  5. Maintain examination room and instruments, ensuring compliance with sterilization techniques and infection control policies.
  6. Manage the logging system for medications, point of care testing, sterilization, and crash cart, as required.
  7. Check expiration dates on medications and supplies, and dispose of them appropriately.
  8. Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and legal regulations.
  9. Assist with medical charts, filing, test results, and forms, as needed.
  10. May be required to perform phlebotomy duties and schedule surgeries or procedures in coordination with a Surgical Coordinator.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Computer skills: Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Effective communication with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of EMR or billing systems preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and changing environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required, with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Medical Assistant certification from an accredited school.
  • BLS certification required (AHA).
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
