Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant – Physician Services
Location: Avenel, NJ 07001
Schedule: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day, Monday – Friday)

Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical care to select patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse or medical practitioner. The role also includes clerical office assistance to support efficient office operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms, ensuring all necessary supplies and instruments are ready.
  • Assist patients during physician visits and examinations as directed.
  • Take and record patients’ vital signs in their medical charts.
  • Understand the proper function and maintenance of specialized medical equipment.
  • Perform EKGs, Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT), audiometry, Titmus tests, and other procedures after completing a performance evaluation checklist.
  • Conduct urine drug screenings (UDS), breath alcohol testing (BAT), phlebotomy, and lab testing as needed.
  • Maintain patient records, complete documentation as directed, and manage filing systems.
  • Assist with billing and collections when necessary.
  • Use computer software to manage office systems and maintain records.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy protocols.
  • Identify and respond to the needs of the patient population, including considerations for age, culture, language, and physical impairments (hearing, vision, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and/or caregivers, considering their developmental, educational, and literacy levels.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Comply with organizational competencies and behavioral standards.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours a day.

  • Proficiency in computerized systems and data entry.

Education:

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Certifications & Licensure (One of the following required):

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from NHA, NCCT, AAMA, or AMCA
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT or NAHP
  • NCMA (National Certified Medical Assistant)
