Job Title: Special Procedures Technologist – Vascular/Interventional Radiology (VI/IR)
Location: Austell, GA
Shift: 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Shifts per Week: 4
Hours per Shift: 10-hour shifts

Position Overview:

The Special Procedures Technologist works under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Vascular Institute Manager. This role is critical in providing safe, age-appropriate care by performing a variety of interventional and special procedures in areas such as interventional radiology (IR), vascular hybrid, and neuro-interventional settings. The technologist is responsible for operating equipment, positioning patients, and ensuring high-quality diagnostic studies while adhering to departmental procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete VI/IR competencies and apply critical thinking skills.
  • Work collaboratively with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and cardiologists.
  • Prepare patients for procedures and use sterile techniques.
  • Set up equipment and prepare necessary supplies for each procedure.
  • Independently perform procedures, ensuring quality imaging and patient care.
  • Perform procedures across multiple settings, including IR, vascular hybrid, and neuro-interventional.
  • Use two patient identifiers (e.g., armband, date of birth) to verify patient ID.
  • Verify patient orders and consent forms before procedures.
  • Follow pre-procedural verification and time-out protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with site marking when necessary.
  • Maintain patient privacy and comfort during procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Be flexible with work hours to meet department needs.
  • Take on-call responsibilities as required, including weekend shifts.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, colleagues, and leadership.
  • Assist in the maintenance of departmental records and compliance with regulations.
  • Keep stock levels updated and ensure that necessary equipment is available.
  • Maintain current certifications, including BLS and required ARRT certifications.
  • Assist with in-service training and mentoring of other staff as appropriate.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures.
  • Offer post-procedural home care instructions when necessary.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiology Technology.

License/Certification:

  • ARRT certification in Cardiovascular Interventional (CV), Radiography, or Vascular Intervention.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in interventional special procedures in either IR, cardiac, or vascular hybrid settings.

Skills:

  • Ability to function independently during procedures after orientation and competency validation.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures, patient positioning, radiation protection, and understanding of anatomy and pathology.
  • Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
