Position Summary:
The Echo/Vascular Sonographer is responsible for performing both echocardiograms and vascular ultrasound studies to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and vascular conditions. The sonographer should be experienced in both modalities, or at least registered in one with significant experience in the other. This role requires working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality diagnostic images are obtained while delivering compassionate care to patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) to capture high-quality images of the heart’s structure and function.
  • Administer vascular ultrasound exams, including carotid duplex, venous Doppler studies, and arterial studies, to evaluate blood flow and detect vascular conditions such as clots or blockages.
  • Operate and adjust ultrasound equipment to ensure optimal image acquisition for both cardiac and vascular studies.
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures, ensuring they understand the process and are comfortable.
  • Position patients appropriately for each type of ultrasound exam.
  • Monitor patients throughout the procedures and respond to any signs of distress or discomfort.
  • Capture accurate and high-resolution images for both echocardiography and vascular studies.
  • Review images to ensure completeness and quality before sending them to the interpreting physician.
  • Communicate with the physician regarding any urgent or abnormal findings.

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field.

Certification:

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience:

  • Must be registered in either echo or vascular ultrasound with significant experience in the other modality.
  • Prior experience working in both echo and vascular sonography in a clinical setting is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in performing echocardiograms and vascular ultrasound studies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
