Job Description: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
Location: Montour Falls, NY 14865
Shift Time: 8 Hours Day Shift

Position Summary:
The Speech-Language Pathologist provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. This role involves working with individuals across various age groups, from pediatrics to geriatrics, to improve communication abilities and quality of life. The SLP is also responsible for collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and educating patients and their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Utilize a combination of standardized tests, clinical observations, and patient histories to identify communication deficits.
  • Develop individualized care plans tailored to the specific needs of each patient.
  • Implement evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions for conditions such as articulation disorders, fluency issues (e.g., stuttering), aphasia, voice disorders, and dysphagia.
  • Design and adjust treatment plans to achieve patient-specific goals and maximize functional communication and swallowing abilities.
  • Provide therapy for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including rehabilitation, long-term care, and acute care units.
  • Educate patients and families about the nature of speech and swallowing disorders and provide strategies for support at home.
  • Train patients and caregivers in the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices when needed.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to set realistic goals for speech and language improvement.
  • Work closely with other healthcare providers, including physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment goals, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of patient evaluations, treatment sessions, and progress notes.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies, including documentation standards and confidentiality requirements (HIPAA).
  • Participate in outcome reporting for quality assurance and improvement programs.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

License:

  • Active and unrestricted Speech-Language Pathology license in the state of New York.

Certification:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Experience in evaluating and treating a range of speech and language disorders across different age groups.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in diagnosis and therapeutic interventions for speech and swallowing disorders.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and patient care skills.
  • Knowledge of augmentative communication devices and other assistive technologies.
