Position Summary:
The Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to patients with cancer, focusing on treatment, symptom management, and patient education. The role involves coordinating and delivering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other cancer treatments, while offering emotional support to patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy as prescribed by the oncologist.
  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions to treatment and take immediate action if necessary.
  • Assess and document patients' physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
  • Provide care to manage symptoms such as pain, nausea, fatigue, and other side effects of cancer treatments.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers (oncologists, radiologists, and dietitians) to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on cancer treatments, potential side effects, and self-care strategies.
  • Provide guidance on nutrition, physical activity, and overall wellness to support patients' quality of life during treatment.
  • Prepare and verify treatment protocols and medications before administration.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure treatments are scheduled and carried out correctly.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers to ensure seamless communication.
  • Follow all protocols for safe handling and administration of chemotherapy and other hazardous medications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including documentation and infection control procedures.
  • Maintain certification in oncology nursing, staying current with new treatments and advancements in cancer care.

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).

License:

  • Active and unrestricted RN license in the state of New York.

Certification:

  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred or must obtain certification within a specified period after hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in oncology, medical-surgical, or critical care settings.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in the administration of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle emotionally charged situations with compassion and professionalism.
