Position Summary:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic imaging and therapeutic procedures using radioactive materials to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. The role requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols while working with radioactive substances.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients for imaging and therapeutic purposes.
  • Perform nuclear medicine scans, including PET, SPECT, and bone scans, using specialized equipment.
  • Ensure quality images are produced to aid in the diagnosis of diseases and conditions.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explaining the process and addressing any concerns.
  • Monitor patients during procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document procedures performed.

Radiopharmaceutical Handling:

  • Prepare, measure, and administer radioactive isotopes for imaging or therapeutic purposes.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of radioactive materials in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Monitor radiation exposure levels to ensure safety for patients, staff, and self.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

  • Operate and calibrate nuclear medicine equipment such as gamma cameras and PET scanners.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain equipment to ensure its safe and effective operation.
  • Collaborate with medical physicists and service engineers for equipment maintenance.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines to minimize radiation exposure for patients and staff.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest nuclear medicine technologies and safety procedures.

Experience with Meditech or similar healthcare information systems for managing patient data and radiopharmaceuticals.

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related field.

Certification:

  • Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB or ARRT-N) required.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in operating nuclear medicine imaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of radiopharmaceuticals, radiation safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient care skills.
  • Experience with Meditech or similar healthcare software is preferred.
