Job Title: Endoscopy Technician I
Location: Marietta, GA, 30060
Shift Time: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Job Summary:
The Endoscopy Technician I position is for individuals with no or minimal experience in endoscopy. The technician assists nurses and physicians in providing care for endoscopy patients. Responsibilities include preparing procedure rooms, maintaining sterile fields, supporting physicians during procedures, reprocessing scopes, and contributing to the daily functions of the unit. This role requires a strong understanding of infection control in a GI setting.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Patient Care:

  • Proficient in all general endoscope procedures, equipment, and supplies, including cleaning endoscopes and accessories.
  • Completes all basic GI procedure competencies and fulfills all GI Lab Technician functions.
  • Prepares procedure rooms and instruments for scheduled, emergent, and urgent procedures.
  • Anticipates the needs of physicians and RNs during procedures, troubleshooting equipment, and manipulating scopes as directed.
  • Takes emergency call after hours and during weekend rotations, as needed by the department.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of infection control principles and actively participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Other Duties:

  • Communicates effectively and works collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Assists in planning daily assignments and ensuring departmental efficiency.
  • Participates in the trial and evaluation of new equipment and supplies.
  • Follows ethical guidelines and supports evidence-based practice.
  • Maintains confidentiality and aligns with the organization's goals for quality care, patient satisfaction, safety, and efficiency.

Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required upon hire.
  • SGNA GI Tech Specialist certification required within 90 days.

Experience:

  • No prior endoscopy experience required.
  • Must successfully complete a 2-day system endoscopy education course within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of on-the-job training with documented orientation and competency sign-offs as determined by the facility.

Skills:

  • Strong English language proficiency.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with other healthcare providers.
  • Competency in all aspects of GI procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and detail orientation.
  • Ability to handle stressful and emergent situations.
  • Computer skills may be required depending on the facility.

Shift Information:

  • Shift: Day
  • Hours per Shift: 10
  • Weekend Requirements: 2 major holidays and 2 minor holidays per unit requirements.
  • Emergency Call: Required after hours and weekends as per department needs.
