Description:

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) will work in a school setting, providing services across elementary, middle, and high school levels. The role involves working closely with students, teachers, and other school staff to address speech and language impairments, ensuring effective communication and language development for students.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Diagnosis:

    • Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders in students.
    • Conduct assessments to identify the specific needs of students and determine eligibility for speech and language services.
  2. Treatment Planning and Implementation:

    • Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and treatment goals for students with speech and language needs.
    • Provide direct speech and language therapy to students in individual or group settings.
    • Monitor and document progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
  3. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom setting.
    • Participate in IEP meetings, providing recommendations and updates on student progress.
    • Maintain effective communication with parents regarding their child’s speech and language development.
  4. Education and Support:

    • Provide guidance to teachers on strategies to support speech and language development in the classroom.
    • Educate students and staff on the importance of communication skills and how to address speech challenges.
  5. Documentation and Compliance:

    • Keep detailed records of evaluations, treatment plans, and student progress.
    • Ensure compliance with school district policies and regulations, as well as state and federal laws regarding special education services.

School Assignments:

  • Elementary Schools: 2 Speech Therapists
  • Middle School: 1 Speech Therapist
  • High School: 1 Speech Therapist

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology or related field is preferred.
  • Valid California state license or certification to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
  • Previous experience in a school setting is highly desirable.
