Job Title: Senior Data Analyst
Duration: 12 months

Summary:

The Senior Data Analyst will be instrumental in supporting the Education-to-Career (E2C) initiative by enhancing equitable access to data through Edwin, the state’s education data warehouse. This role requires a strong technical background combined with the ability to effectively interpret and communicate data insights. The position necessitates close collaboration with data architects and BI developers to expand Edwin and optimize reporting tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business research analysts to evaluate and define data requirements.
  • Design and document data marts and queries to meet business needs, ensuring data accuracy and alignment with existing reports.
  • Develop and maintain a business rules data handbook by drafting and reviewing documentation in clear, accessible language.
  • Reverse engineer data schemas and queries to understand and document business rules used in existing data loading processes.
  • Translate complex data challenges into detailed specifications and design suitable solutions using data processing systems.
  • Create and manage entity-relationship diagrams (ERDs) and engage in database modeling across logical, physical, and presentation tiers.
  • Provide technical and database support for internal applications, ensuring high performance and user satisfaction.
  • Contribute to the team’s knowledge base by sharing best practices and lessons learned.
  • Maintain code in GitHub, ensuring proper version control and adherence to coding standards.
  • Log all work accurately in JIRA, including time estimates and actual time spent.
  • Advocate for and implement efficient coding practices and innovative solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of data warehouse concepts and requirements.
  • Expertise in database management, with hands-on experience in Snowflake, Oracle, and SQL Server.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, both in writing and verbally.
  • Strong attention to detail and troubleshooting skills for quality assurance, including the ability to identify, isolate, and resolve errors or discrepancies.
  • Experience in dimensional modeling and knowledge of data structures for enterprise-level analytical reporting.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations and best practices for handling sensitive personal information.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment, with a willingness to learn and contribute to the team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data reporting tools such as PowerBI and Tableau.
  • Familiarity with data cataloging tools such as Alation and Socrata.
  • Experience in mentoring analysts and providing SQL training.
  • Confidence in recommending and implementing policies and procedures to enhance database operations and system efficiency.
  • Proficiency in diagramming complex data structures.
  • Skills in data analysis, migration, and loading, with experience in developing T-SQL, PL/SQL, ANSI SQL, or other proprietary SQL languages.
