A healthcare organization is seeking a qualified Medical Assistant I for a contract position. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in performing a variety of clinical, technical, service, and administrative tasks in a fast-paced environment. This position requires a CMA certification, which must be submitted with the resume to be considered.

Duties:

Clinical and Technical Responsibilities:

  • Perform EKGs, lab testing, PFT, and audiometry as ordered by the physician.
  • Admit patients to the exam room, taking vital signs, medical history, medication history, allergy history, height, and weight as indicated.
  • Conduct quality control procedures and adhere to CLIA regulations for laboratory tasks.
  • Document patient care, including treatment, telephone contacts, and completed daily checks (e.g., oxygen levels, emergency box).

Administrative Tasks:

  • Ensure patient referrals are completed and forwarded appropriately.
  • Maintain examination rooms and medical areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Stock examination rooms with supplies and handle inventory, including checking supplies from vendors against packing slips.
  • Register and transact patients promptly and accurately using the current computer system.
  • Update patient information, including medical insurance coverage and eligibility.
  • Schedule patient appointments and maintain the patient waiting room and front desk area.
  • Process HMO referrals as requested by the physician, practice management, or patients.
  • Communicate patient emergencies to the physician and handle telephone inquiries professionally.

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Balance ledger sheets and account for all monies received.
  • Maintain accountability for the cash box and its contents, notifying the Office Administrator or Reimbursement/Front Office Coordinator when change is needed.

Communication and Relationships:

  • Demonstrate a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with patients, staff, families, and significant others.
  • Ensure all patients and visitors receive prompt attention and are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Provide discharge instructions to patients as per physician's instructions and follow up on test results with patients as directed.

Skills and Experience:

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or two (2) years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Excellent phone manners, flexibility, computer data entry skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage diversified responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BLS certification.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school or two years of experience working as a medical assistant.
