Schedule Notes:
URGENT HIRES 5 days, rotating weekends 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. General urgent care experience required. Epic experience preferred.

Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant provides essential support to physicians and healthcare teams by fulfilling both patient care and clerical responsibilities. This role involves direct patient interaction, performing medical procedures, and maintaining a safe and organized environment in compliance with institutional policies and healthcare regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care Responsibilities:

    • Perform venipuncture and/or EKGs, manage patient flow, assist patients with mobility, and prepare for exams.
    • Assist physicians with procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, and handle phone inquiries.
    • Manage physical activities that include heavy lifting and sustained strenuous tasks.
  2. Clerical Responsibilities:

    • Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, manage charts, and complete necessary forms.
    • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system and prepare prescription refill requests for physician approval.
    • Schedule surgeries/procedures, prepare charts, and manage pre-admissions and consent forms as needed.
  3. Inventory and Maintenance:

    • Inventory, order, and re-stock medical supplies.
    • Set up examination rooms and instruments according to sterilization and infection control policies.
    • Maintain logging systems for medications, testing, sterilization, and other essential processes.
  4. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with personal protective equipment requirements to protect against exposure to hazardous substances.
    • Monitor expiration dates on medications and supplies, disposing of them per institutional policies.
  5. Additional Duties:

    • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts and perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
    • Schedule appointments, update patient demographic and insurance information, and verify insurance details.
    • Adapt to a dynamic and evolving work environment and perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (basic level).
  • Strong communication skills, particularly with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, telephone etiquette, and knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) or billing systems is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to adapt to a growing and changing environment.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.

Licensing and Certification Requirements:

  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • BCLS certification required (issued by AHA).
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Languages: Proficiency in English (Speaking, Reading, Writing).
