Job Summary/Purpose:

The Certified Nursing Assistant performs routine duties within the limits of training and certification in caring for the acute inpatient rehabilitation patient. The care is rendered under the supervision of a Registered nurse and or Licensed Therapist. Performs other duties related to the work described herein. Here are some of these duties listed below. This is in no way and all-inclusive list. This just serves as an example of some of the duties required for this role. Duties vary by department.

Job Functions:

  • Make sure room is free of trash and clutter
  • No excess linens or dirty linens in patient’s room
  • Trash emptied and bag replaced
  • Ice pitchers filled with ice and water (check NPO status with RN)
  • Beside commodes, potty hats and urinals are empty and clean
  • All rooms are stocked with S, M, L and XL gloves
  • Update communication board. Speak with patient about hourly rounding
  • Food tray placed on carts (They are not to be left in patient rooms)
  • No extra supplies left on desk or in station
  • Hallways are free of clutter /trash/stretchers/beds/linens
  • Wipe down work areas
  • All isolation caddies are stocked
  • All patient paperwork placed in patient chart and stored in secure area
  • Extra equipment plugged in
  • All glucometers quality checked
  • All glucometers strips and controls are properly labeled (open date/expired date)
  • Order supplies every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Ensure Three Central Line Kits are assembled and ready to use
  • All patient intake and output has been reported to the nursing staff
  • Collect blood sugars and temperatures
  • Assist with nighttime snacks for diabetics
  • Assist nurse with OOB/Ambulation
  • Assist with turns. Each patient is turned every 2 hours.
  • Answer phone calls
  • Timely response to call lights and patient alarms
  • Put in tickets for broken equipment
  • Check patient refrigerators. All patient food must be labeled and dated. No staff food allowed
  • Check staff refrigerator. All food must be labeled (time/date/name)
  • Stock blanket and wipe warmers
  • Always provide patient privacy during toileting and bathing
  • Complete bath log and report sheet
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
