Job Title: Certified Surgical Technician (CST)

Location: New York, NY
Duration: 9 Weeks
Schedule: 5 Days per Week | Day Shift (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Flexible schedule available (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM based on Operating Room needs)

Compensation

Travel Pay: $70 – $74/hour (Based on Experience)
Local Pay: $55 – $60/hour (Based on Experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technician (CST) to join a busy surgical team supporting Ophthalmology, ENT, and Plastic Surgery procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong operating room experience, exceptional sterile technique, and the ability to anticipate the needs of surgeons and nursing staff throughout surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

Surgical Scrub Duties

• Perform surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving procedures according to established protocols.
• Prepare and organize sterile instrument tables, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique throughout all surgical cases.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and preparation of the operative field.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies during procedures.
• Monitor and maintain accurate counts of instruments, needles, and sponges with the circulating nurse.
• Assist with specimen handling, labeling, and transport according to policy.
• Apply dressings and assist with drainage systems as directed.
• Observe patients and remain prepared to respond to emergent situations.

Operating Room Support

• Assemble and prepare equipment and supplies required for surgical procedures.
• Assist with patient transfers using approved safety equipment and techniques.
• Support circulating staff with room setup, turnover, and preparation for subsequent cases.
• Monitor operating room traffic and identify breaches in sterile technique.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the operating room environment.
• Ensure proper decontamination and processing of reusable instruments and equipment.
• Assist with maintaining inventory levels and notifying leadership of equipment or supply needs.

Medication & Safety Responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with preparation of medications and solutions within scope and under supervision.
• Properly label medications, syringes, cups, and basins according to regulatory standards.
• Follow all OSHA, infection control, and facility safety guidelines.
• Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) training program.
• Current CST Certification through NBSTSA required.
• Minimum two (2) years of recent scrubbing experience in:
  • Ophthalmology
  • ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat)
  • Plastic Surgery
• Strong knowledge of sterile processing, aseptic technique, and surgical instrumentation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework in Operating Room Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related sciences.
• Previous experience in a high-volume surgical setting.
• Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA (Required)
