Mainframe Modernization Consultant – BFSI

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

About the Role

We are seeking a Mainframe Modernization Consultant to lead strategic transformation initiatives focused on modernizing legacy banking and financial systems. This role will drive application modernization, cloud migration, API enablement, and digital transformation programs.

IMPORTANT NOTE – BFSI EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Candidates must have direct experience leading modernization initiatives within Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, Wealth Management, Capital Markets, Lending, Payments, Credit Unions, or FinTech organizations.

Experience modernizing core banking systems, payment platforms, policy administration systems, customer information systems, or financial transaction processing environments is mandatory.

Candidates without BFSI industry experience will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess legacy application portfolios.
• Develop modernization and migration strategies.
• Lead refactor-to-cloud transformation initiatives.
• Analyze COBOL, PL/I, CICS, DB2, and batch processing applications.
• Define target-state architecture and modernization roadmaps.
• Support API enablement and microservices transformation.
• Collaborate with business, architecture, and technology teams.
• Ensure regulatory and operational compliance throughout transformation programs.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of Mainframe or Legacy Systems experience.
• Strong expertise in COBOL, PL/I, CICS, DB2, JCL, and z/OS.
• Experience with cloud modernization initiatives (AWS or Azure).
• Experience leading legacy-to-cloud transformation programs.
• Strong stakeholder management and consulting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Enterprise Architecture experience.
• Banking transformation experience.
• Cloud certifications.
• Experience with APIs, microservices, and modernization frameworks.
