Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Emergency Float Pool

Location: Syracuse, NY 13210
Duration: 14 Weeks
Schedule: Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours: 12 hours/day | 3 days/week | 36 hours/week


Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for an Emergency Float Pool assignment at a high-acuity, Level 1 trauma care facility.

The ideal candidate will have strong patient care experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced emergency environment. This role requires flexibility, teamwork, and a strong commitment to patient-centered care while supporting clinical staff in both direct and indirect patient care activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including:
    • Obtaining and recording vital signs
    • Assisting with bathing, toileting, and feeding
    • Supporting activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Serve as a safety companion for patients identified as at risk
  • Monitor and promptly report changes in patient condition to nursing staff
  • Maintain accurate documentation and clear communication regarding patient care
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized patient care environment
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
  • Demonstrate professionalism, ethical judgment, and compassionate care

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State CNA Certification
  • Active BLS Certification
  • Minimum 1 year of patient care experience
  • Experience working in a Level 1 trauma care setting
  • At least 2 years of experience assisting with ADLs
  • Experience as a patient safety companion/sitter
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment health clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an Emergency Department (ED) or Float Pool
  • Prior exposure to trauma care settings
