Position Overview

A leading acute care hospital in Kealakekua, Hawaii is seeking an experienced General Diagnostic Ultrasound Technologist with multiple ARDMS certifications. This role requires strong independent clinical judgment and the ability to perform a broad range of ultrasound examinations in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The ideal candidate is highly skilled, self-directed, and comfortable working independently, as this position includes solo coverage and variable scheduling requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including:
    • Abdominal imaging
    • OB/GYN studies
    • Vascular assessments
  • Operate ultrasound equipment while ensuring optimal image quality and diagnostic accuracy
  • Independently manage patient workflow and complete exams without direct supervision
  • Review physician orders and select appropriate imaging protocols
  • Document and transfer imaging data accurately into EPIC EMR
  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and professionalism throughout procedures
  • Communicate findings and collaborate with physicians as required
  • Maintain proper cleaning, disinfection, and preventive maintenance of ultrasound equipment
  • Adhere to hospital infection control, safety, and compliance standards
  • Participate in holiday and variable schedule coverage as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of ultrasound experience (required)
  • Active ARDMS certifications in:
    • Abdomen (ABD)
    • OB/GYN
    • Vascular (RVT preferred/required)
  • Strong ability to work independently in a clinical hospital setting
  • Proven experience in general diagnostic ultrasound procedures
  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR system
  • Ability to work variable shifts, including holidays
  • Active BLS certification (required)
  • ACLS / PALS (if required by facility standards)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in hospital-based diagnostic imaging departments
  • Strong vascular ultrasound expertise
  • Previous travel assignment experience
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic scheduling and patient volume
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills
