Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Long Beach, CA 90805
Shift: Day Shift (5x8)
Duration: 14 Weeks
Hours: 40 Hours/Week
Pay Rate: $30/hour

Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment. This role ensures all instruments meet strict safety, quality, and infection control standards while supporting surgical and procedural teams through accurate processing and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontaminate used surgical instruments and equipment using proper PPE and protocols
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble surgical instruments as required
  • Assemble and package instrument trays and sets according to guidelines
  • Operate washers, sterilizers, and related processing equipment safely
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage
  • Document missing or damaged instruments according to SOPs
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records and tracking logs
  • Monitor inventory levels of instruments and supplies
  • Handle instruments and customer-owned items carefully
  • Perform documentation and computer-based tracking tasks
  • Follow ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs
  • Clean and maintain sterilization equipment and work areas
  • Maintain infection control and quality assurance standards
  • Communicate effectively with team members and operations staff
  • Support workflow improvements and process efficiency
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of sterile processing experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CRCST, CIS, or equivalent certification required
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization processes
  • Strong understanding of infection control practices
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of ANSI/AAMI standards and IFUs
  • Experience with washers, disinfectors, and autoclaves
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
