Location: Long Beach, CA 90805
Duration: 14 Weeks
Schedule: 5 Days/Week | 8 Hours/Day | 40 Hours/Week


Compensation

  • Local Pay Rate: Up to $30/hour (based on experience)
  • Travel Pay Rate: Up to $34/hour (based on experience)

Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures all instruments meet strict safety, quality, and infection control standards to support efficient clinical operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform decontamination of surgical instruments and equipment following proper PPE and infection control protocols
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and reassemble complex surgical instruments
  • Assemble and package instrument trays and surgical sets per established guidelines
  • Operate sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, washers, and disinfectors
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and defects prior to sterilization
  • Identify and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sterilization cycles, instrument tracking, and inventory
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of instruments and sterile supplies
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of sterile processing equipment
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
  • Follow ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), and SOPs
  • Handle all instruments carefully to prevent damage
  • Complete required documentation and system tracking tasks
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and cross-functional departments
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and workflow optimization
  • Maintain compliance with infection control policies and organizational standards
  • Attend ongoing training and competency assessments
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on sterile processing experience
  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile processing procedures
  • Understanding of sterilization techniques, including steam sterilization and infection control practices
  • Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and manufacturer IFUs
  • Experience with sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and washer disinfectors
  • Certification required (CRCST, CIS, or equivalent)
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with tracking systems
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and standard operating guidelines
  • Team-oriented with a professional and dependable work ethic
  • Willingness to comply with required health screenings and vaccinations
