Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Rochester, NY

Duration: 13 Weeks


Schedule

  • Mid Shift Options:
    • 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM (4 shifts/week) OR
    • 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (5 shifts/week)
  • On-Call Requirement:
    • 4 call shifts/month (2 weekends + 2 weekdays)

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU is responsible for providing post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgical procedures. This role involves monitoring patients in Phase I and Phase II recovery, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia, and delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced acute care setting.


Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

  • Provide care for patients in Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery
  • Monitor vital signs and patient status post-anesthesia
  • Assess and manage pain, airway, and recovery progression

Clinical Skills

  • Perform IV insertion and phlebotomy (mandatory competencies)
  • Manage post-operative patients across multiple specialties
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and emergencies

Procedures & Specialties

  • Endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures
  • General surgery
  • Orthopedic, spine, and total joint procedures

Collaboration

  • Work closely with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare staff
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records using EMR systems
  • Follow hospital protocols and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Minimum 1 year of PACU or relevant acute care experience
  • Mandatory skills: IV placement and phlebotomy

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
