The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Medical Surgical / Telemetry provides direct patient care within a medical-surgical unit while collaborating with registered nurses and physicians to support treatment plans and patient recovery. The LPN manages assigned patients, performs clinical assessments, administers medications, and monitors patient conditions in an acute care hospital setting.
This role requires strong clinical skills in patient monitoring, medication administration, and communication with healthcare teams in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment.
Provide direct patient care to assigned medical-surgical patients under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Monitor and record vital signs, pain assessments, intake and output, and patient responses to treatments.
Administer medications including oral, IM, SQ, NG/G-tube, ear and eye drops according to physician orders.
Perform blood glucose monitoring and IV therapy using infusion pumps.
Monitor patients on telemetry and perform 12-lead EKGs when required.
Assist with oxygen administration via nasal cannula and respiratory monitoring.
Provide wound care and dressing changes, including management of drains such as JP and Hemovac.
Perform clinical procedures including Foley catheter insertion, specimen collection, and feeding tube management.
Assist with bathing, hygiene care, and patient comfort measures.
Communicate patient status changes to registered nurses and physicians.
Maintain accurate documentation in the EPIC electronic medical record system.
Follow infection control protocols including isolation precautions and safe patient handling procedures.
Active New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License (New York is not a compact state).
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
Recent acute care experience within the last two years.
Ability to manage an independent patient assignment with RN support.
Experience using EPIC Electronic Medical Records.
