Job Summary

The Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse (Ambulatory RN) provides nursing care to patients in an outpatient clinical setting. This role involves patient triage, clinical assessment, coordination of care, and supporting providers during patient visits in a primary care environment.

The nurse works closely with physicians and clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow, timely care delivery, and high-quality patient outcomes. Responsibilities include managing patient calls, conducting assessments, and assisting with treatment and follow-up care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care in an ambulatory / outpatient clinical setting.

  • Conduct telephone triage and assess patient symptoms to determine appropriate care or follow-up.

  • Perform patient assessments including vital signs, health history review, and clinical evaluations.

  • Assist providers during patient examinations and procedures.

  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders.

  • Educate patients regarding treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care instructions.

  • Coordinate patient referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up appointments.

  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record system.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

  • Follow infection control protocols and ensure patient safety standards are maintained.


Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License – New York State.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent nursing experience within the past two years in an acute care facility.

  • Experience working in a primary care office or ambulatory care setting.

  • Experience performing telephone triage and patient assessment.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Records.

  • Previous experience in outpatient or primary care clinic settings.

  • Experience working in large hospital systems or trauma centers.
