The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides respiratory care services to adult and geriatric patients in a critical care environment. The therapist is responsible for evaluating patients with cardiopulmonary disorders, administering respiratory therapies, monitoring patient response to treatments, and assisting with advanced respiratory procedures. The role requires strong experience in adult critical care and trauma settings while maintaining patient safety and adherence to clinical protocols.
Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions.
Provide respiratory therapy treatments and interventions according to physician orders.
Assist with extubation procedures and airway management techniques.
Perform nasal airway and oral airway placement and provide suctioning as needed.
Provide tracheostomy care and monitor airway patency.
Perform pulmonary hygiene and collect sputum specimens for laboratory analysis.
Administer respiratory medications using various delivery methods including aerosol masks, tracheostomy aerosol setups, and metered dose inhalers.
Deliver medications using devices such as handheld nebulizers, T-piece nebulizers, and tracheostomy collar nebulizers.
Provide oxygen therapy including high-flow nasal cannula and tracheostomy collar oxygen therapy.
Manage and monitor patients on Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) systems.
Troubleshoot ventilator issues including high-pressure alarms.
Assist with mechanical ventilation management and ventilator weaning protocols.
Monitor patient responses to respiratory therapies and document clinical findings.
Maintain accurate documentation using the electronic medical record system.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.
Float to other units within competency based on patient care needs.
Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience, preferably in adult critical care settings.
Active state respiratory therapy license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Minimum 1 year of experience using Epic electronic medical record system.
Experience working in a Level 1 Trauma environment.
