The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) will support surgical teams in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) by preparing operating rooms, maintaining sterile environments, and assisting surgeons during cardiovascular surgical procedures. The technologist will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers to ensure safe and efficient surgical operations while maintaining strict sterile technique and patient safety standards.
Prepare the operating room for cardiovascular surgical procedures by organizing surgical instruments, sterile supplies, and equipment.
Assist surgeons during procedures by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field.
Perform duties as a first scrub technologist during cardiovascular surgeries.
Maintain sterile technique and ensure infection control standards are followed throughout procedures.
Anticipate the needs of surgeons and surgical team members during procedures.
Prepare and handle surgical instruments, sutures, and supplies required for procedures.
Assist with patient positioning and preparation prior to surgery.
Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse.
Assist with operating room turnover and preparation for subsequent procedures.
Maintain proper handling and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency surgical cases as required.
Float to other surgical service areas within skillset when needed.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
Minimum 1 year of surgical technologist experience, preferably in cardiovascular operating room procedures.
Experience working as a first scrub technologist preferred.
Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, surgical instrumentation, and cardiovascular procedures.
