Job Type: Contract (Travel Assignment)
Contract Duration: 13 Weeks
Pay Rate: $68 – $72 per hour (Travel Pay Rate)

Schedule

  • Shift: Day Shift

  • Shift Options: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM or 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Hours: 40 Hours per Week

  • Schedule: 5 Days per Week

  • Additional Requirements: Rotating Weekends & Holidays

  • Float: Required to float to General OR as needed


Position Overview

The Surgical Technologist – CVOR assists surgeons and registered nurses during cardiovascular and general surgical procedures. This role is responsible for preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, and providing intraoperative support to ensure safe and efficient surgical care.

The Surgical Technologist works under the direct supervision of the surgeon and RN to support surgical operations and maintain a sterile environment in accordance with established surgical standards and best practices.


Key Responsibilities

Operating Room Preparation

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by setting up instruments, sterile drapes, and surgical equipment

  • Assemble sterile and non-sterile surgical equipment and ensure proper functionality

  • Ensure case-specific instruments and supplies are available based on surgeon preference cards

Surgical Procedure Support

  • Scrub and assist surgeons during cardiovascular and general surgical procedures

  • Pass instruments, sutures, and sterile supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants

  • Assist with sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to surgical safety protocols

  • Prepare and label medications during procedures under RN and surgeon supervision

  • Assist with surgical dressings and wound care as needed

Sterile Technique & Infection Control

  • Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures

  • Ensure proper sterilization techniques for instruments and specialty equipment

  • Monitor the sterile environment and take corrective actions when necessary

Patient Care Support

  • Assist with transporting patients to the operating room

  • Help safely position patients on the operating table

  • Assist with transferring patients to recovery following procedures

Equipment & Room Maintenance

  • Operate and assist with surgical equipment such as lights, suction devices, and sterilization units

  • Assist with operating room turnover and restocking between procedures

  • Maintain surgical instruments and specialty equipment in coordination with nursing staff

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and surgical staff to ensure efficient OR operations

  • Support orientation and training of new operating room staff when needed

  • Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and continuing education activities

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by department leadership


Required Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited civilian or military Surgical Technologist / Operating Room Technician program

Certification

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from an accredited certifying body recognized by:

    • National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)

    • American College of Surgeons (ACS)

    • Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)

Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Surgical Tech experience

  • Experience floating to General OR required

Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required


Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation and cardiovascular surgical procedures

  • Excellent understanding of sterile technique and infection control practices

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating room environment

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

  • Commitment to maintaining patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality
