Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO)

Location: Manchester, NH
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Days, Monday – Friday (No Weekends)

Compensation & Structure

  • Base Salary: Up to $165,000 (based on experience)

  • Incentive Bonus: Eligible for a 17.5% annual bonus

  • Reporting Structure: Direct report to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

  • Scope: Oversight of 10 direct FTEs and operational responsibility for key patient care areas

Job Summary

The Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) supports the CNO in executive management of hospital resources, strategic planning, and organizational development. The ACNO holds operational and functional responsibility for specific patient care departments and leads high-priority special projects or initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executive Quality Oversight: Assist in developing policies aligned with professional standards and regulatory requirements. Identify system-level issues to prevent errors and monitor corrective actions.

  • Service Excellence: Serve as a role model for ethical conduct while fostering a professional practice environment that promotes staff recruitment and retention.

  • People & Leadership: Encourage autonomy and independent problem-solving among staff. Collaborate with nursing educators to ensure orientees are prepared for independent practice.

  • Strategic Growth: Contribute to planning new, revenue-generating services and assist in clinical renovations or new construction projects.

  • Clinical Rounding: Conduct regular rounds on patients, families, and physicians to ensure alignment, oversee operations, and enhance the patient experience.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education:

    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required

    • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) – Required

  • Experience:

    • 5+ years of direct leadership experience in an acute care hospital

    • Director-level experience in Inpatient/Med-Surg – Required

    • 5+ years in a supervisory nursing role

  • Licensure: Current NH Registered Nurse (RN) license or active Compact license

  • Additional Requirements: Demonstrated clinical and administrative stability; candidates with frequent job changes or exclusively interim experience will not be considered.
