Snowplow Taxonomy Consultant Specialist (Architect Level)

Location: Remote (Hybrid option available – Costa Mesa, CA)
Contract Type: Consultant / Contract
Duration: 6–12 Months (Extension Possible)


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Snowplow Taxonomy Architect to lead the design, implementation, and governance of a scalable event taxonomy framework across web and mobile platforms. This role will align data instrumentation strategy with enterprise architecture principles, enabling consistent, high-quality analytics across the organization.

This is a strategic, hands-on architect role requiring deep expertise in Snowplow, event modeling, schema governance, and cross-platform integration.


Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and implement a scalable Snowplow event taxonomy aligned with enterprise data architecture principles

  • Architect Snowplow integration across iOS, Android, and web platforms

  • Design and document event schemas using Iglu and JSON Schema standards

  • Establish governance and lifecycle management for taxonomy versioning and evolution


Implementation & Integration

  • Lead end-to-end Snowplow tracker implementation and pipeline configuration

  • Partner with mobile and backend engineering teams for seamless instrumentation

  • Integrate taxonomy with SDUI components and GraphQL subgraphs

  • Ensure compatibility with downstream platforms such as:

    • Hightouch

    • Redshift

    • SageMaker

    • Spark


Data Quality & Validation

  • Define automated schema validation and compliance checks

  • Implement monitoring and alerting for pipeline integrity

  • Enforce best practices for event naming conventions and metadata tagging


Collaboration & Enablement

  • Translate business requirements into structured event definitions

  • Conduct workshops and enablement sessions on Snowplow instrumentation

  • Develop comprehensive documentation and onboarding materials


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years in data architecture, analytics engineering, or event instrumentation

  • 3+ years hands-on experience with Snowplow Analytics, including:

    • Iglu Schema Registry

    • Tracker implementation

    • Pipeline configuration

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Event taxonomy design

    • Semantic modeling

    • Schema governance

  • Experience integrating Snowplow within mobile apps (Swift/Kotlin)

  • Familiarity with GraphQL and modern app architectures

  • Strong understanding of data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery)

  • Experience with BI tools (Looker, Tableau)

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Apollo Server and GraphQL subgraph architecture

  • Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices

  • Financial services or Personal Financial Management (PFM) domain experience

  • Contributions to Snowplow open-source projects
