Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room
Location: Salem, Virginia
Position Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Position Overview

A respected acute care hospital in Salem, Virginia is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room to join its fast-paced Emergency Department team. The RN will provide immediate, high-quality nursing care to patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and emergent medical conditions.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, the ability to prioritize effectively in high-pressure situations, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid patient assessments and triage according to established protocols.

  • Provide direct nursing care to emergency and trauma patients of varying acuity levels.

  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as prescribed.

  • Monitor patient condition and respond promptly to changes in status.

  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.

  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.

  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection control guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia (or compact state).

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.

  • Minimum 1–2 years of Emergency Room experience preferred.

  • Current BLS certification.

  • ACLS required.

  • PALS and TNCC preferred (or required per facility policy).

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and multitasking skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-volume or trauma-designated Emergency Department.

  • NIH Stroke Scale certification.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
