About the Facility

A large, nationally recognized, 600+ bed acute care hospital in Southeast Georgia is seeking a Director of Emergency Services – Pediatrics to lead operations within a dedicated Children’s Hospital and Level I Trauma Center.

This regional referral center serves communities across Southeast Georgia and Southern South Carolina and is known for advanced trauma, heart, cancer, neonatal, and pediatric specialty care. The pediatric hospital operates in a distinct, child-focused environment emphasizing compassion, innovation, and family-centered care.


Position Summary

The Director of Emergency Services – Pediatrics provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for the Pediatric Emergency Department. This leader ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through oversight of department operations, staffing, budget management, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth initiatives.

Reporting to the ACNO, the Director fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence, and engagement within a dynamic pediatric emergency setting.


Department Overview

  • Annual Volume: ~41,000 visits (approx. 112/day)

  • Pediatric Inpatient Beds: 50

  • Pediatric ER Beds: 18

  • Trauma Level: Level I

  • Total FTEs: 46

  • Direct Reports: 1 Manager

  • Separate, modern children’s hospital facility (opened recently)

This is a uniquely child-centered emergency environment that differs significantly from adult emergency care and requires passion, energy, and a team-focused leadership style.


Key Responsibilities

Quality & Clinical Excellence

  • Promote evidence-based practices to advance patient safety and clinical outcomes

  • Ensure adherence to all legal, regulatory, accreditation, and trauma standards

  • Drive quality improvement initiatives and reduce variation in clinical practice

  • Monitor internal/external benchmarks and pursue accreditations and designations

  • Oversee patient throughput, admission/discharge coordination, and patient flow

  • Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care

  • Ensure proper equipment maintenance and regulatory compliance


Service & Patient Experience

  • Lead initiatives to deliver an exceptional pediatric patient and family experience

  • Utilize feedback data to improve satisfaction and engagement

  • Implement strategies to elevate service excellence and family-centered care

  • Collaborate with patient experience leaders and interdisciplinary teams


People & Culture

  • Foster a passionate, mission-driven pediatric care environment

  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and engagement

  • Identify staff development and training needs

  • Coach and mentor leaders and frontline staff

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing talent

  • Encourage a positive, energetic culture aligned with pediatric care


Growth & Strategic Development

  • Partner with physicians and executive leadership to expand pediatric emergency services

  • Identify opportunities for service line development and differentiation

  • Support stakeholder engagement and technology integration to increase volume and quality


Financial & Operational Leadership

  • Participate in annual budget planning and forecasting

  • Monitor revenue, expenses, productivity, and staffing metrics

  • Ensure effective labor management and premium pay utilization

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high-quality care

  • Oversee supply and equipment utilization


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

  • 1+ year recent Manager or Director-level leadership experience

  • 3+ years recent Emergency Room experience

  • 3–5 years recent Pediatric Emergency experience
    (Mother Baby, NICU, and Labor & Delivery backgrounds will not be considered)

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration
