Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and entrepreneurial Nurse Practitioner (NP) to lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of a newly established Occupational Health Services (OHS) Clinic in Maryland.

This role serves as the Clinical Lead and Operational Authority, responsible for building and managing a fully compliant occupational health clinic that supports a biomedical and research-focused environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on clinician with strong operational leadership skills and deep expertise in occupational health, regulatory compliance, medical surveillance programs, vaccination management, and emergency care.


Key Responsibilities

Clinic Leadership & Operational Build-Out

  • Lead the establishment and operational readiness of the Occupational Health Services clinic

  • Develop and maintain clinical protocols, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance

  • Determine staffing requirements and support hiring of clinical and administrative personnel

  • Oversee clinic administration, recordkeeping, and compliance documentation

  • Ensure appropriate medical equipment, supplies, attire, and operational readiness

  • Utilize occupational health EHR software (e.g., Cority) for scheduling, medical records, reporting, and communication


Regulatory Compliance & Governance

Ensure full compliance with applicable standards and regulations, including:

  • OSHA

  • Joint Commission

  • Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)

  • Maryland State regulations

  • Federal regulatory requirements

  • NIH-approved research protocols

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining required licenses and certifications

  • Coordinating physician oversight as required by Maryland law

  • Preparing documentation for audits and inspections

  • Managing annual compliance and reporting requirements


Clinical Services & Direct Patient Care

Provide occupational health and limited emergency medical services, including:

  • First aid and emergency stabilization

  • Suturing and wound care

  • Prescribing medications

  • Referral coordination to offsite facilities

  • Case management for occupational injuries and illnesses

  • Stabilization of non-occupational medical emergencies on campus


Vaccination Program Administration

Administer and manage immunization programs, including but not limited to:

  • Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Influenza

  • Vaccinia (ACAM 2000 / Jynneos)

  • MMR, TDAP, Rabies

  • International travel vaccines

Ensure accurate documentation, inventory control, and compliance tracking.


Medical Surveillance Program Management

Design, implement, and oversee medical surveillance programs, including:

  • Bloodborne Pathogens

  • Animal allergen and non-human primate exposure

  • Herpes Simplex, Rabies, Toxoplasma Gondii

  • Asbestos exposure

  • Hearing conservation and respiratory protection

  • Laser safety

  • Vaccine-related surveillance

  • Vision screening for vial inspectors

Ensure all surveillance protocols align with regulatory and NIH requirements.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Human Resources on return-to-work programs and reasonable accommodations

  • Support workers’ compensation case management

  • Partner with Safety, Security, and Environmental Health teams

  • Conduct ergonomic assessments and workplace risk evaluations

  • Maintain controlled substance lock box access for laboratory environments

  • Provide semi-annual CPR and First Aid training

  • Develop and update employee health and safety training programs

  • Communicate health advisories to campus staff as needed


Required Qualifications

  • Active Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Maryland

  • National Board Certification (AANP or ANCC)

  • 5–8 years of clinical experience

  • Occupational health experience preferred (minimum 3 years)

  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission requirements

  • Experience developing medical surveillance programs

  • DEA license (or ability to obtain)

  • BLS and ACLS certification


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience launching or scaling a new clinic or healthcare program

  • Experience managing clinical staff

  • Familiarity with occupational health EHR platforms

  • Vaccination program management experience in research or high-risk environments

  • Experience supporting federal or government contracts

  • Background in research, laboratory, biomedical, or NIH-regulated environments
