Job Title: Nurse Manager – Emergency Services (Freestanding Emergency Department)

Location: Sanford / Mount Dora Area, Florida
Employment Type: Full-Time
Shift: Day Shift | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
On-Call: Required | Responsible for 24/7 departmental operations


Position Overview

A reputable acute-care healthcare organization in Central Florida is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Emergency Services to lead operations at a Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered emergency care through oversight of daily operations, staffing, clinical quality, patient flow, and employee engagement. The Nurse Manager supports organizational goals by fostering a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, and excellence in emergency nursing practice.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered emergency care aligned with established policies and evidence-based practices

  • Promote adherence to clinical standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation guidelines

  • Monitor nursing practice and evaluate patient outcomes to ensure quality benchmarks are met

  • Support reduction in practice variation to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management

  • Ensure proper maintenance and regulatory compliance of emergency department equipment

  • Manage admissions, transfers, and discharge processes to optimize patient throughput

  • Facilitate effective interdisciplinary collaboration across departments


Operations & Patient Experience

  • Oversee daily FSED operations, staffing, and workflow

  • Foster a culture of exceptional patient experience and service excellence

  • Review patient satisfaction feedback and implement improvement strategies

  • Support service recovery efforts and reinforce a patient-first philosophy

  • Ensure compliance with evidence-based practices that enhance patient satisfaction and service delivery


People & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop emergency nursing staff

  • Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional development

  • Identify training and competency needs; provide coaching and performance feedback

  • Resolve employee concerns and manage issues according to established procedures

  • Build and maintain a high-performing, collaborative emergency services team


Financial & Resource Management

  • Manage staff scheduling to meet patient care demands and productivity targets

  • Monitor and control departmental operating expenses

  • Ensure efficient use of supplies, equipment, and resources

  • Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising patient care


Community & Organizational Engagement

  • Represent the organization positively within the local community

  • Participate in organizational initiatives, patient education events, and in-services

  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the healthcare organization


Unit & Program Details

  • Freestanding Emergency Department

  • 11 private treatment rooms

  • Trauma-capable emergency room

  • Average daily volume: ~22 patients

  • Patient ratios: 1:4

  • Imaging services available (CT, Ultrasound, Diagnostics)

  • Rural / low-density service area

  • Approximate staffing: 11 FTEs


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of recent (within the last year) acute-care Emergency Department leadership experience
    (Charge Nurse, Coordinator, Supervisor, or similar role)

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or RN Diploma required

  • BLS – Required within 30 days of hire

  • ACLS – Required within 6 months of hire

  • PALS / ENPC – Required within 6 months of hire


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a Freestanding Emergency Department

  • Strong clinical emergency nursing background

  • Ability to work independently in a low-volume, rural setting

  • Previous experience within a large hospital system preferred


Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Emergency Department Director
