Job Summary

A high-acuity, high-volume Emergency Department in Overland Park, KS is seeking an experienced Nurse Manager – Emergency Department to provide clinical and operational leadership. Reporting to Emergency Services leadership and hospital nursing administration, this role is responsible for daily department operations, staffing, quality outcomes, and delivery of patient-centered emergency care.

The facility is a large acute care hospital and Level II Trauma Center, serving more than 45,000 Emergency Department visits annually across multiple emergency locations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing leadership and operational oversight for Emergency Department operations

  • Ensure safe staffing, efficient patient flow, and high-quality clinical care

  • Monitor and evaluate nursing practice to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards

  • Hold staff accountable for quality, safety, and clinical outcomes

  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to support organizational goals

  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and support evidence-based practice

  • Foster a culture of patient-centered care, accountability, and professional development


Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of recent acute care Emergency Department leadership experience

    • Manager-level experience strongly preferred in a high-acuity environment

    • ED Charge Nurse experience considered

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

  • BSN – Preferred or actively pursuing (completion within 2 years of hire)

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or active compact license

Required within 90 days of hire:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification

  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)


Department & Facility Highlights

  • Emergency Department beds: 24 main beds + 12 hallway beds

  • Trauma Level II designation

  • Average daily volume: ~100 patients

  • Approximately 90 FTEs managed

  • Oversight limited to Emergency Department operations only

  • Reports to Emergency Services Director and Hospital Nursing Leadership

  • Position open due to leadership transition
