Job Title: Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Location: Great Falls, MT 59405

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit provides comprehensive nursing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients within a medical/surgical or progressive care setting. This role includes delivering physical, emotional, spiritual, and culturally appropriate care while monitoring for potential patient deterioration. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes and functions with minimal supervision while adhering to established clinical policies and procedures.

Patient Population

Anticipated patient populations may include, but are not limited to:

  • Pediatrics

  • Pre- and post-PCI care

  • Pacemaker and revascularization patients

  • Carotid endarterectomy and thoracotomy

  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

  • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)

  • Renal failure

  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE)

  • Sepsis

  • A broad range of medical and surgical diagnoses

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care from admission through discharge, including discharge planning

  • Monitor and assess patients for changes in condition and intervene appropriately

  • Operate advanced medical equipment and manage patients with:

    • Central and arterial lines

    • Chest tubes

    • Nasogastric tubes

    • Continuous bladder irrigation

    • Multiple IV infusions

    • Short-term invasive and noninvasive ventilatory support

  • Deliver care to general medical and surgical inpatient populations

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals

  • Maintain professional nursing standards in all patient interactions

  • Act as a clinical leader and assist with staff precepting and mentoring

  • Provide direction and supervision to RN, LPN, CNA, housekeeping, and dietary staff

  • Follow established policies and procedures with minimal supervision

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program

Experience

  • Experience in an advanced medical/surgical unit required

  • Recent Progressive Care or Critical Care nursing experience required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Montana Registered Nurse (RN) license

  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS required (or obtained within 6 months of hire)

  • EPNC and TNCC preferred
