Job Title: RN – Inpatient Surgical Unit (Med-Surg)

Location: Gainesville, FL 32614

Shift: Nights | Rotating Weekends

Position Type: Full Time

Position Overview

A hospital in Florida is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join an Inpatient Surgical Unit within a Medical-Surgical department. This role is ideal for nurses who are comfortable in a fast-paced environment and committed to delivering safe, high-quality post-surgical and medical care.

Unit & Work Environment

  • Inpatient Surgical Unit within a Med-Surg floor

  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Up to 7:1

  • 500+ bed, Joint Commission–accredited acute care hospital

  • Comprehensive surgical, cardiac, stroke, oncology, and neurosciences services

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care to post-operative and medical-surgical patients

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans

  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies per provider orders

  • Monitor patient progress and promptly report changes in condition

  • Educate patients and families on post-surgical care, medications, and recovery expectations

  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care

  • Document nursing care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record

  • Advocate for patients, families, and caregivers to ensure optimal outcomes

Required Qualifications

  • Active Florida RN license or approved multistate compact license

    • Compact license holders must obtain Florida license within 60 days of relocation

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required

    • Acute care experience NOT required

    • Experience accepted from:

      • Home Health

      • LTAC

      • Skilled Nursing Facility

      • Outpatient Rehab

      • Corrections

  • BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) required prior to start

  • NIH Stroke Scale required within 30 days of hire

  • Nursing Diploma or ASN required; BSN preferred
