The OR Tech III is a senior-level surgical technologist who supports complex and high-risk surgical procedures in a general Operating Room setting. This role serves as a technical expert and mentor within the OR and is frequently relied upon for advanced cases, troubleshooting, and leadership support.
The Surgical Technologist III assists the Operating Room team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies across a wide range of surgical procedures. This role functions in both first and second scrub capacities and demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge, technical proficiency, and situational awareness. The OR Tech III maintains strict sterile technique, anticipates surgeon needs, and contributes to safe, efficient surgical care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
Perform first scrub duties, preparing and managing surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of surgical procedures and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
Maintain continuous vigilance over the sterile field to ensure patient safety and infection prevention.
Function as second scrub when needed, assisting surgeons and surgical assistants with tasks such as sponging, suctioning, cutting sutures, holding retractors, and manipulating endoscopic cameras.
Support complex and high-risk surgical cases, including hybrid and wire-based procedures.
Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced surgical technologists.
Promote Operating Room efficiency through organization, communication, and teamwork.
Minimum 1+ year of Operating Room Surgical Technologist experience required.
Endovascular experience in a vascular hybrid operating room, including wire-based procedures, required.
Demonstrated competency to function as lead technologist in the following specialty areas:
Robotic Surgery
Total Joint Procedures
Neuro/Spine
Burn Surgery
Vascular Surgery
Minimum of two years’ experience in a similarly sized facility with comparable surgical services.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery (TS-C) through NCCT required upon hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment start date.
Reports to: Surgical Services Leadership
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
High proficiency with wire-based and hybrid OR techniques.
Ability to perform efficiently in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a leadership presence in the Operating Room.
