Location - Kansas City, MO

Available Shifts:

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Job Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) delivers high-quality, patient-centered perioperative care in a fast-paced surgical environment. This role supports surgical services through effective patient assessment, preparation, intraoperative care, and interdisciplinary collaboration while adhering to evidence-based practices and safety protocols.


Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery and assess readiness for operative procedures.

  • Provide patient and family education regarding surgical procedures and the perioperative process.

  • Prepare patients for surgery, including IV therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification.

  • Participate in surgical safety protocols including briefings, time-outs, debriefings, and universal precautions.

  • Recognize and respond appropriately to patient emergencies.

  • Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care using evidence-based practices and continuous improvement principles.

  • Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary surgical team including providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists.

  • Apply the nursing process, critical thinking, clinical judgment, and technical skills to provide independent patient care.

  • Monitor patient condition throughout the shift and document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately.

  • Educate patients and caregivers on medical conditions, treatment plans, and follow-up care.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 1+ year of recent Operating Room RN experience (scrub and/or circulating).

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse program (RN Diploma or equivalent).

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of employment start date.


Additional Role Details

  • On-call requirements: Covered by a dedicated on-call resource (no routine on-call for this role).

  • Reports to: Nursing Manager

  • Ideal candidate profile: Strong OR experience with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity surgical environment.
